SIMULTANEOUS EXHIBITION

We met Alexandra Kosteniuk at Venizelos airport and, after a quick stop at the splendid Grand Bretagne Hotel where she reappeared looking stunning, we went to visit the Acropolis, Arios Pagos and to walk in the footsteps of the Ancients in the Agora. Alexandra drank her first Frappe and then we brought her to Petroupoli where she took amazing photographs on the giant chess board and signed autographs. The World Champion began her Simul at 7pm and finished at 12 midnight with a brilliant score of 27=4-4 against tough opposition. Without taking a single break, she circled the 35 boards for 5 hours on high heels in the cold evening air. Alexandra proved beyond doubt why chess is a sport and not a game in an amazing show of mental and physical strength. But the night wasn’t over yet. At 1am Alexandra gave a fascinating press conference where she answered questions from the press and from teenagers interested in the role of women in the sport, how she balances motherhood and family with training, and the future of Russian chess. Alexandra won the hearts and minds of all with her beauty, talent, endurance and charm.
